Flexible Tenures

📘 How Your FD Maturity is Calculated
The mathematics behind Fixed Deposits – The maturity amount depends on the principal, interest rate, tenure, and compounding frequency. For cumulative FDs (interest reinvested), we use the compound interest formula:
A = P × (1 + r/n)n×t
Where:
- A = Maturity amount
- P = Principal (deposit amount)
- r = Annual interest rate (decimal)
- n = Number of compounding periods per year (e.g., 4 for quarterly)
- t = Tenure in years
For non‑cumulative FDs (interest paid out periodically), simple interest is applied: Interest = P × r × t. The principal remains constant, and the payout does not earn further interest.
🔍 Example calculation
Suppose you deposit ₹5,00,000 at 7.5% p.a. for 5 years, compounded quarterly (n=4). Using the formula:
A = 5,00,000 × (1 + 0.075/4)4×5 = ₹7,24,364 (approx). Interest earned = ₹2,24,364. Our calculator performs this instantly for any tenure and payout option.
💡 Factors that affect your returns
- Compounding frequency: More frequent compounding (e.g., quarterly vs. yearly) yields higher returns.
- Tenure: Longer tenures allow more compounding cycles.
- Payout choice: Choosing “at maturity” reinvests interest, increasing final amount.
- Tax implications: Interest earned is taxable as per your income slab – consider this in your planning.
